“Finality is death. Perfection is finality. Nothing is perfect. There are lumps in it.” [Stephens, James. The Crock of Gold. Bk 1, Ch. 4]

comments on this past election

14 11 2008

So, Barack Obama is president elect and the world will never be the same. I felt overwhelmed with pride and love for country and neighbor, knowing that we do indeed have a working democracy, and that by the will of the people, a man with a Swahili name and mixed heritage was elected leader of this great nation.

It’s dumbfounding.

It’s amazing.

It’s beautiful–it’s America.

And I love it.

I am an American. This is my country. And I love it.

on homosexual marriage

30 10 2008

“We do not believe that marriage of heterosexuals is threatened by same-sex marriage.  Rather, the Christian values of monogamy, commitment, love, mutual respect and witness of monogamy are enhanced for all by providing this right to gay and straight alike.  Society is strengthened when two people who love each other choose to enter into marriage, engaged in a lifetime of disciplined relationship building that serves as a witness to the importance of love and commitment.” [Episcopalian Bishops of the Dioceses of Northern California, California, El Camino Real, San Joaquin, Los Angeles, and San Diego; Statement on Proposition Eight]

the duck

15 10 2008

O Pato by Karrin Allyson

O pato,

The duck was dancing by the water, quack, quack, quack.

The rhythm made him think he oughta, quack, quack.

He was dancin’ to the samba, the samba, the samba.

O gooso,

The goose was gaily swimmin’ by, honk, honk, honk.

He thought he’d give the dance a try, honk, honk.

The bossa nova had him dancin’, the new thing, the new swing.

A lovely swan swam by in all her majesty, then she loosened up

“Coo chi-coo chi-coo,” said that swan.

She joined the duck and goose and did the samba too.

You shoulda seen the kinda samba she could do.

They did the samba so long, they all fell right in the water

While they were singin’ away, quack, quack, quack, quack

Quack, quack, quack, quack

Quack, quack, quack, quack.

O pato.
